PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new long-chain aliphatic diglycidyl ether hopeful in application as an intermediate forα,ω-type surfactants, oil-absorbing polymers, amphiphilic polymers, epoxy resins, etc., and to provide a method for synthesizing the above ether. SOLUTION: This long-chain aliphatic diglycidyl ether is shown by the formula (1) (wherein, R is a 8-32C straight-chain or branched alkyl or alkenyl). The other objective method for synthesizing the above ether comprises a reaction between an epihalohydrin and the two hydroxy groups of a dihydric higher alcohol of the formula: HO-R-OH (wherein, R is a 8-32C straight-chain or branched alkyl or alkenyl).
