This invention relates to 1-substituted- phenyl-3-substituted -2-thioxo-4, 5-imidazolidinediones and 2, 4, 5- imidazolidinetriones of formula I which have activity as herbicides, to compositions which contain these compounds and to methods of use of these compounds. In particular, the present invention pertains to 2-thioxo- 4, 5- imidazolidinediones or 2, 4, 5- imidazolidinetriones wherein a 2, 4, 5, 6-tetrasubstituted phenyl ring is linked to the heterocyclic ring.
