PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup apparatus which can be prevented from being unintentionally turned ON. SOLUTION: This image pickup apparatus is composed of a first case equipped with an image pickup optical system, a display unit capable of displaying an image taken through the optical system, and a second case connected to the first case in a rotatable manner. The switch unit of the image pickup apparatus turns the main power supply ON when the second case is opened beyond a prescribed angle, shifting from the condition in which the second case is superposed on the first case.
