The spring-loaded brake has a brake control valve (2) which is operated to release the brake in an emergency. The operation of the brake valve is by a control pressure which forces the brake into the released position. To this aim the brake valve has a control spool (11) longitudinally movable in a bore (10) and which for emergency operation has the function of a pump and creates the pressure to release the brake. A control unit is provided to control the connection of the valve's pressure chamber (25) to the brake.
