In order to determine whether a vehicle (F) has left a section of railway track (SA0, SA1, SA2), it is tested whether an item of information from a response unit (A2) read at the start of this section of railway track (SA0, SA1, SA2) is read again at the end of the vehicle (F) at the end of the section of track (SA0, SA1, SA2) and whether there are no longer any response units (A1, A2) in the section of track (SA0, SA1, SA2). A comparative device (V) required for this and a response unit counting device (Z) are designed with respect to technical safety considerations. However, these two devices act on a safety AND element (UG) by means of which an all-clear signal for the section of track (SA0, SA1, SA2) can be triggered. <IMAGE>
