The cooled ring carrier (1) is made up of a ring carrier section (2) connected together with a sheet section (3). The piston is connected with the ring carrier section together with cold channel (4) such that, prior to dipping in an aluminium smelt, it is coated with carbon material. The cooled ring carrier, after connecting with the ring carrier section and the sheet section, is subjected to vacuum in an evacuation container.
