The surface of the object (8) being treated is exposed simultaneously to at least one variable magnetic field with alternating magnetizing direction and to a static magnetic field with constant magnetizing direction so that each magnetic field generates in the object a different frequency of resetting. At the same time as the magnetic field action the surface of the object is subjected to plastic deformation and material finishing such as cutting, polishing or de-burring.
