In electrodischarge wire machining, power supply means (16) supplies electrical energy between a wire electrode (1a) and a workpiece (2), and positioning means moves the wire electrode (1a) and the workpiece (2) relative to each other. A method of electrodischarge wire machining includes a first step of roughing in a working liquid (4a) and a second step of finishing in an atmosphere (7) containing air, oxygen, or an inert gas such as nitrogen. Control means (17) controls positioning means so that the wire electrode (1a) may move relative to the workpiece (2) at a constant speed higher than a predetermined speed that does not allow a short circuit between the electrode and workpiece to continue longer than a time predetermined according to a required specification in the second step. The method improves the accuracy, quality and productivity of electrodischarge wire machining.
|
