PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator car device exclusive for, small cargo for eliminating the deficiency of making a cargo handler uncomfortable when the elevator car is abnormally moved up/down during the handling of the cargo in the car. SOLUTION: A door device 4 for opening/closing the entrance/exit is mounted on the car 2 moving up/down along the passage guided by a guide rail 1. A brake block 19 of a brake mechanism 9 mounted on the car 2 is held normally at the non-operation position, and the brake block 19 is displaced to the operation position adjacent to the guide rail 1 when the door is opened by the door device 4. Then, when the car 2 is abnormally moved/displaced up or down, the brake block 19 is engaged with the guide rail 1 and the displacement is braked. When the car 2 is stopped at the entrance/exist with the door device 4 being released and the cab 2 is abnormally moved up or down because of the slippage of the brake of a hoist etc., while baggage is being carried into the car 2, the brake block 19 is engaged with the guide rail 1 and the abnormal displacement of the car 2 is prevented.
