PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for modifying a polytetrafluoroethylene excellent in efficiency and capable of performing the modification at a low cost. SOLUTION: This method for modifying the polytetrafluoroethylene is provided by continuously conveying the powdery baked polytetrafluoroethylene 3 by making it a layer 8 having a prescribed thickness with first to third conveyer belt 6, 10 and 13, and irradiating a radiation on the continuously conveyed layer 8 at the radiation zone 12 to modify it continuously.
