The tread has a series of blocks formed by lengthwise and transverse grooves, each block having a number of wells opening onto its contact surface. The total volume of the wells in the forward portion of a tread block is greater than the volume in the rear portion. The tread has a series of blocks (2) formed by lengthwise and transverse grooves, each block having a number of wells (6) opening onto its contact surface (5). In a new tyre the total volume of the wells in the forward portion of a tread block is greater than the volume in the rear portion. The wells are at least 5 mm deep and set in two or more rows parallel to the block's leading edge; each well has a cross-section of 0.2 - 12 sq m, and the sections of wells in two successive rows are different. The wells, which lie perpendicular to the contact surface in a new tyre, can reduce progressively in depth from the block's leading edge towards the trailing edge, and the average number of wells per square centimeter of tread block is up to 15. |
