<p>A user (41) applies for opening of an account to a settling agency (43). A portable telephone (1) is then issued to the user. When the user (41) makes a payment to the settling agency (43), opening of the account is completed. The amount of money thus paid is preserved in the nonvolatile storage area in an RAM (35). The user (41) goes to a commercial facility (45) and purchases an article of commerce. At that time, a terminal previously installed in the commercial facility (45) is connected with the portable telephone (1). The terminal is connected with a server (47). Subsequently, authentication is carried out. When a clerk at the commercial facility (45) operates the terminal based on the intension of purchase from the user (41), detailed purchase data is transmitted to the server (47). Consequently, an amount of money for purchase is paid from the balance in the server (47) and the balance in the portable telephone (1) is updated to an amount of money after the payment.</p> |
