PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ceramic backing material which enables one-side carbon dioxide gas arc welding by high welding current while retaining an excellent welding quality. SOLUTION: The ceramic backing material for one-side carbon dioxide gas arc welding contains 65-95 wt.% SiO2, 3-20 wt.% Al2O3, 1-10 wt.% MgO, 2-15 wt.% one or more oxides selected from a group of Na2O and K2O, and 0.5-5 wt.% one or more oxides selected from a group of Fe2O3, TiO2, and CaO.
