PROCESS FOR COATING AND LAMINATING FILM USING 100% SOLIDS ADHESIVE AT ROOM TEMPERATURE

A two doctor blade (51, 53) laminating and coating system is employed with a gravure or flexographic set up to coat adhesive onto a film and then laminate it to another film. The adhesive is pumped into the chamber (47) and a sump (24) receives adhesive recirculated back from the enclosed chamber. Adhesive is mixed and supplied to the sump while the process is conducted so that the enclosed chamber is continuously full of adhesive. The preferred adhesive is a two-stage epoxy having part A and part B mixed together in a desired ratio. The adhesive is a zero VOC 100% solids laminating adhesive having a mixed viscosity of 200-1500 cps with the viscosity remaining within a desired range at room temperature, defined as a temperature range of 50-100 degrees F for up to 3 hours. The adhesive is solventless and is unaffected by moisture.
