PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron gun for a color CRT developed to improve a picture resolution by enlarging the interval S2 from the reflection central surface 4a to both sides of an electron beam R, B. SOLUTION: In a control electrode and an acceleration electrode the interval between the passing hole for a central electron beam to pass through and both sides of an electron beam passing hole is set as S0, while set as S1 in a standby focusing electrode. In a standby focusing electrode the dispersion means is provided for dispersing externally both sides of an electron beam projected into the focusing electrode against the central electron beam and move an externally placed main focusing electrostatic lens outward against the central main focusing electrostatic lens with respect to both sides of an electron beam which has dispersed, the following data setting is done. 0.31<=WS/H<=0.34, WS= WC+t where; H denotes a horizontal rim width. WC: denotes, with respect to H, a horizontal path diameter of the central electron beam passing hole of an electrostatic field control electrode. t: denotes a minimum width of the bridge B which surrounds the outside of a horizontal direction of the central electron beam passing hole.
