PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce paper feeding errors apt to occur in feeding cardboards without adding a hardware or a complicated gear structure. SOLUTION: This printer comprises a feed motor 17 formed of a stepping motor for driving a paper feeding mechanism for feeding printing paper to a printing position, a paper feed sensor 16 for detecting that the printing paper is fed to the printing position, and ASIC 11 and CPU 12 for controlling a paper feeding operation of the paper feeding mechanism by inputting a pulse into the stepping motor. The CPU 12 performs a first paper feeding operation by inputting a preset pulse at a certain cycle to the stepping motor. As a result, when it is determined based on the existence of a detection signal from the paper feed sensor 16 that the paper feeding operation fails, next, the cycle of the pulse to be inputted into the stepping motor is extended by a predetermined length, and a second paper feeding operation is performed.
