The invention relates to a composition containing at least one solvent and at least two different compounds of general formula (I) wherein R<1> represents each of the compounds of general formula (I) present in the composition, independently representing an optionally substituted, linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated alkyl radical containing 3 - 44 C atoms, an optionally substituted aralkyl radical containing 6 - 44 C atoms, an optionally substituted aryl radical containing 6 - 44 C atoms or an optionally substituted heteroaryl radical and X represents a functional group selected from the group consisting of COOH, HSO3, HSO4, (OH)2PO, (OH)2PO2 (OH)(OR<2>)PO and (OH)(OR<2>)PO2 and whereby R<2> represents a linear or branched alkyl radical containing 1 - 10 C atoms. The invention also relates to a metal surface which can be obtained by contacting the surface of a metal with the inventive composition. The invention further relates to a method for treating the surface of metals with said inventive composition and the use of the inventive composition for treating the surface of metals.
