A system for assessing performance of a device, such as a hard drive, in a computer system. The system allows measurement of data transfer rates during read and write operations from and to the hard drive. The system comprises a virtual drive in random access memory (RAM) subsystem which acts as a destination and source for the data read from and written into the hard drive. The system determines the data transfer rate of the hard drive by monitoring the duration of the data transfer between the hard drive and virtual drive. This system is able to achieve consistent and reliable assessment of performance of the hard drive. |
