PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk unit which enables not only high-speed recording as a parallel recording type, but also the effective use of a recording surface in relation to a method for selecting a truck to shift a defective track on the recording surface. SOLUTION: In Fig. 15, showing the actuator of a magnetic disk, when nine surfaces except a servo surface 52 among ten recording surfaces in total are used as the parallel recording type of two surfaces in one set, one surface is odd, and this surface is used as an alternative surface, when one surface of one set of two surfaces has a defect.
