PURPOSE: A digital thermo optical switch combined with a variable light attenuator is provided, which obtains a good optical crosstalk rate and at the same time reduces a fabrication process difficulty of the device by increasing a Y-branch angle. CONSTITUTION: According to a thermo optical switch structure to reduce a fabrication process difficulty by increasing a Y-branch angle and to obtain a good optical crosstalk rate without a large variation of a driving power of the switch, thermo optical variable optical attenuators(16,19) using a high order mode generator are connected to an output port of the prior Y-branch thermo optical switch(13). When switching an input light to a heat wire(21) exit, a power is applied to electrodes(14,17) at the same time, and when switching the input light to a heat wire(18) exit, a power is applied to electrodes(15,20) at the same time. A waveguide is fabricated with a polymer or a silica.
