PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for shielding smoke, with which a smoke shielding function can be presented to secure safety for the sufferers without affecting refuge and without disturbing fire-fighting and relieving actions in an opening part inside a building. SOLUTION: Closely to a ceiling part (c) of the building or on the upper part of the opening part, a water spouting means 1 is provided for forming the curtain of water composed of water mist or jet of water to partition a space under these parts and the flow of smoke is pushed down on the surface of the floor by spouting the curtain of water.
