PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filer wire for laser welding which greatly improves the solidification crack resistance of weld metal in laser welding. SOLUTION: This filler wire for laser welding having the excellent solidification crack resistance is formed by filling at least metallic powder of a flux and the metallic powder into a steel sheath and contains 0.1 to 15mass% Mg or Mg alloy, in terms of Mg, by the total mass of the wire and the total amount including at least the metallic powder of the filler and metallic powder in the steel sheath is 5 to 20mass% of the total weight of the wire.
