PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology which can optimize image display while taking characteristics of a portable terminal device into account. SOLUTION: The portable telephone 2 accesses a server device 8 to request contents. A distributing means 10 of the server device 8 reads the requested contents image out of a contents recording means. An image converting means 12 obtains image side information on the read contents image and screen size size information included in the contents request from the portable telephone 2 and judges whether or not the longitudinal/lateral relation (longitudinally long or laterally long) of the image size matches the longitudinal/lateral relation (whether the screen is longitudinally long or laterally long in a standard direction) of the screen size. When not, the read contents image is rotated by 90 deg. and it is judged whether or not the image size is less than the screen size. When so, the 90 deg.-rotated contents image is sent to the portable telephone 2. When not, on the other hand, the image is reduced and sent to the portable telephone 2.
