In the coupling position, the plane of the plate (1) of the first building element is essentially parallel to the plane of the plate (1) of the second building element. In addition, the plates (1) of the respective building elements are positioned in such a manner that the groove (5) of the plate (1) of the first element is parallel to the groove (5) of the plate (1) of the second element and overlap in such a manner that the locking means (2) is insertable into the overlapping grooves (5) and engagable with the respective plates (1).
