PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for coating a solid with amorphous silica, which can prevent waste ore from the elution of noxious substances unlike a post- treating method for noxious substances eluted from the waste ore into the environment or for a drain or waste water thereof. SOLUTION: This method comprises dissolving amorphous silica such as diatomaceous earth in an aqueous alkali solution of a pH of 13 or above, immersing a waste ore in the saturated alkali solution of the diatomaceous earth, lowering the pH of the saturated alkali solution to 4-12 to deposit the silica on the surface of the waste ore, drying the coated ore, and repeating a series of these operations to form a silica coat on the surface of the waste ore.
