PURPOSE: A new delivery system for cyclopropene comprising cyclopropene, a molecular encapsulation agent complex and a water-absorbing agent is provided. By use of a small amount of water, the composition slowly releases cyclopropene, inhibits ethylene reaction of a plant and then extends the shelf-life of a plant, flower, fruit and leaf. CONSTITUTION: The cyclopropene composition comprises: cyclopropene of the formula 1; a molecular encapsulation agent encapsulated with the cyclopropene inside; optionally one or more additives; and a water absorbing agent such as superabsorbent polymers, wherein the molecular encapsulation agent is cyclodextrin or a mixture of cyclodextrin. In formula, R is H or substituted or nonsubstituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl, phenyl or naphtyl.
