The door panel (2) has a sandwich construction with a foam core (5) enclosed by a metal or plastics cladding and a door hinge (10) with a hinge plate (21) which is incorporated in the thickness of the door for at least half of its volume. The hinge plate lies beneath the metal or plastics cladding and is secured to the door panel via the foam and/or an adhesive.
