A metal catalyst for the ring-opening polymerization of a heterocyclic compound which has a metal atom and a ligand, characterized in that it has a smallest maximum angle (Dm) among all maximum angles (D) of 60 degree or less, wherein the maximum angle (D) refers to a maximum angle which a virtual line (X) passing through the center of the metal atom and being orthogonal to a virtual plane (P) passing through the centers of three atoms of the ligand atoms being not substituted with a reactive substrate (S) and bonding directly to the metal atom can form with a virtual line (Y) joining the center of a non-coordinating atom in the ligand and the metal atom, and thus such maximum angles are present in a number of non-coordinating atoms in the metal atom. The use of the metal catalyst allows the production of a ring-opened polymer having primary terminal heteroatomic groups in a percentage exceeding 75 %.
|
