PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for encoding and decoding information using chaos signal is provided to introduce a chaos theory to a cryptogram system for a third person not to interpret encoded information. CONSTITUTION: An optional password key is put in a transformation means to make a series of an initial vale and an increase rate having no periodicity. The initial vale and the increase rate is substituted in a chaos function to obtain a chaos signal. The chaos function includes a logical difference equation or a Lorenz equation. The chaos signal is nonlinear and is a series of a state value having no periodicity. The chaos signal is changed to a binary signal according to a threshold value determined by a user. A register of a computer performs XOR operation the binary chaos signal and a binary value of information to be encoded to encode the information.
