PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction material having improved abrasion characteristic together with improved fading characteristic. SOLUTION: This friction material is a molded product from a compound comprising a substrate fiber, a binder, a friction adjuster and a filler, in which the binder comprises a phenolic resin powder having an average particle size of 10μm or less blended in 5 to 25 vol.% provided that the total of the friction material is 100 vol.% contributing to the enhancement of abrasion resistance of the friction material.
