PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double-side original reader that uses two light sources used also to read a double-side original, when reading a one-side original to quicken the reading of the one-side original. SOLUTION: At double-side reading, the double-side original is carried through a 2nd read carrier path 42c from a 1st read carrier path 42b; a 1st light source 350 has a light irradiated to a 1st read section 3b to read one side of the original; a 2nd light source 450 has a light irradiated to a 2nd read section 3c, the light is reflected in a slide white board 38, to read the other side of the original. At one-side reading, the one-side original is carried through a one-side discharge carrier path 42d from the 1st read carrier path 42b; the slide white board 38 is made to move; and the light from the 2nd light source 450 passes through the 2nd read carrier path 42c, is reflected in a reflection board 37 and emitted to the 1st read section 3b together with the light from the 1st light source 350.
