PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate difficulties in operating/managing a computer in a large- scale communication network. SOLUTION: When a monitored computer 1 is connected to a 1st channel 4, a gateway server 2 is retrieved, the object device information of the computer 1 is registered in the server 2 and a slave virtual device 8 is constructed. When an operation/management client 3 accesses the server 2 through a 2nd channel 5, the server 2 distributes a master virtual device 9 for operating the computer 1. When the virtual device 9 transmits a 1st instruction information, the virtual device 8 converts the 1st instruction information into 2nd instruction information on the basis of a translation table 7 and transmits the 2nd instruction information to the computer 1. The virtual device 8 converts the 1st result information from the computer 1 into the 2nd result information by referring to the table 7 and transmits the 2nd result information to the client 3. The client 3 displays the 2nd result information on a monitor 11.
