PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-purity heterocyclic aromatic calboxylic acid in high yield by safe reaction under an industrially advantageous mild reaction conditions. SOLUTION: This method comprises heating a heterocyclic aromatic aldehyde in a nonpolar organic solvent in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide. Thereby, the reaction is safely performed without expensive oxidizing agent, using no special reactor, under industrially advantageous mild reaction conditions, and the objective high-purity heterocyclic aromatic carboxylic acid can be obtained in high yield.
