The network center (1) includes a low power transmitter/receiver device (1a) for wireless radio communication with similar transmitter/receiver devices (3) provided in or connected to the peripherals (2a-2e, 2i-2k). The network center is portable, has a rechargeable battery and is provided with a high power transmitter/receiver unit (1b) for wireless communication via a telephone network, and with a GPS receiver unit. The peripherals include personal digital organizers, palmtop computers (2b), laptop computers (2a), fax machines (2c), printers (2d) and land-line telephones.
