PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine block having a cooling channel between cylinders while maintaining the minimal distance between the cylinders. SOLUTION: This engine block is furnished with a main body, a large number of cylinder bores formed on the main body, a large number of cylinder liners coaxially provided inside of the cylinder bores and at least one cooling channel formed between the cylinder bores, and it constitutes its characteristic feature that at least one of the cylinder bores has a space enough to form the cooling channel on the main body by being engaged with a projected part formed on an inside wall of the cylinder bore.
