PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for treating a metallic material with which the metallic material can be made to fine or amorphous and also, the prevention of environmental pollution and the reduction of cost can be obtained. SOLUTION: The metallic material 302 is heated to make the molten state and rapidly cooled and solidified by allowing the molten state metallic material 302 to contact with liquid metallic sodium 4 for cooling and thus, the amorphous metallic material is formed.
