PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a data processing system for facilitating development of an optional apparatus providing a series of print operations while informing the operational information and status information of the optional apparatus to a host PC, or facilitating development of a printer system incorporating the optional apparatus. SOLUTION: An optional apparatus 30 coordinates a device ID request being dispatched from a host PC 10 to a printer 20 and a response of the printer to the device ID request. Device ID data is returned from the printer back to the host PC 10 while adding the information of its own unit to a part of the device ID data. Since information of the optional apparatus 30 is added to device ID data and returned from the printer 20 back to the host PC 10, various optional apparatus can be added to a system without remodeling the printer 20. |
