PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fault monitoring system which monitors a software fault of a computer being a monitoring object, transmits a fault occurrence notice to another computer connected through a network at the time when a fault occurs and can control the computer being the monitoring object with a request instruction from another computer connected through the network. SOLUTION: A 1st software environment 102 being a monitoring object and a 2nd software environment 107 for monitoring the software environment of a platform 1 are constructed on the monitoring object computer 101. The agent 104 for monitoring the 1st software environment and the agent 108 for monitoring the 2nd software environment monitor a fault of the 1st software environment. When it is detected that a fault has occurred, the monitoring agent on the 2nd software environment notifies a monitoring computer 115 of the fault occurrence and controls the monitoring object computer according to an instruction from the monitoring computer.
