PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device that can keep the sensitivity and an output level constant even when a gradation characteristic is switched. SOLUTION: In a digital camera that is provided with a CCD imaging device 105 that picks up an object, an exposure control device 103 that control the exposure in the imaging device 105, a digital process circuit 108 that has a gradation conversion circuit able to generate an image signal with different gradation characteristics (gamma) on the basis of an output signal of the imaging device 105, and a system controller 112 that has a selection circuit to select a gradation conversion characteristic used by the gradation conversion circuit, and that can select any of the gradation characteristics, any of control object values is selected depending on a gamma value selected through exposure control by the exposure control device 103 so as to always make the output level with respect to an average exposure identical to each other in order to prevent fluctuations in the sensitivity (output signal level) by the selection of the gamma. |
