PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display screen with backlighting is provided to improve the backlighting of a liquid crystal display screen. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display screen comprises a liquid crystal layer(1), a first and a second transparent substrates(2,3) flanking the liquid crystal layer, units for influencing the transmission state of the liquid crystal layer, a phosphor layer(11) containing at least one phosphor in the form of phosphor dots on the second substrate, a third substrate(9) arranged opposite to the second substrate and connected with the second substrate to form a gastight gas discharge vessel filled with a filling gas, and units for igniting and maintaining a dielectrically impeded discharge in the gas discharge vessel.
