A composition and method of inhibiting the growth of suckers in tobacco plants are disclosed using an aqueous solution containing as active ingredient from about 10 % to about 90 % by weight of a saturated C6 to C18 fatty alcohol and about 90 % to about 10 % of polyoxyethylene sorbitan ester comprising a mixture of mono-, di-and tiresters which has the advantage of reducing noxious odors during field application.
