PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original image pickup device provided with an original guide means for contributing to miniaturization of the device and improvement of portability and maintainability. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a device main body C for storing a read means provided with an image sensor for reading the image information of an original and a sub scanning means for changing the relative positions of the image sensor and the original image in a direction orthogonal to the main scanning direction of the image sensor at a prescribed speed, a pair of original guide means 18 and 118 for setting the original at a prescribed position to be turned so as to be housed in the device main body, a locking means 71 for locking the respective original guide means to the positions to be housed in the device main body and an unlocking means 75. The respective original guide means are respectively provided with spindle parts 18b and 118b to be a turning center to the device main body, and when unlocking is performed by the unlocking means, they are turned so as to make turning directions to the respective spindle parts opposite to each other by the energizing force of an energizing means and a linking means.
