PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reproduction quality of reproduced data when recording and reproduction are performed simultaneously by a data stream recorder/ reproducer by using a buffer memory efficiently and reducing the load of transferring reproduced data from a recording medium. SOLUTION: The data stream recorder/reproducer comprises a stream intake section (11), buffer memories (30, 31 and 32) for temporarily storing stream data received from the intake section, a random access storage unit (13) for storing stream data received from the buffer memory, a section (14) for reproducing stream data received from the buffer memory or the storage unit, and a section (35) for managing and controlling the buffer memory. The memory managing section determines the data in the stream data taken in to be held in the buffer memory until it is transferred to the stream reproducing section based on the stream reproducing position.
