PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a bright color picture by improving light utilization efficiency in a video display device using a single liquid crystal panel. SOLUTION: A light W emitted from a lamp 11 is resolved into three primary color lights R, G, and B through a dichroic mirrors 14r and 14b, and they are made to be incident on a light path switching part 21 from three directions 120 degrees apart from each other. The light path switching part 21 is provided with three light guide paths 25a to 25c. The three primary color lights emitted from the respective outgoing outlets are led through illumination light guide paths 22a to 22c to a crystal panel 20, and they are directed respectively onto three areas that the crystal panel 20 is divided into three in the vertical scanning direction. In this case, a motor 32 is turned by a motor rotation control unit 33 while the optical path switching part 21 is synchronized with a video signal Sv, so that the three primary color lights are directed on different positions on the crystal panel 20 at the same time, and the position of emitting the respective color lights is moved while synchronizing with the video display position on the liquid crystal panel 20. |
