PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for sampling a glass melting furnace capable of correctly checking the condition of generation and distribution of metal sludge in the glass melting furnace. SOLUTION: This sampling apparatus comprises a tubular throw-in pipe 11 inserted at an arbitrary position of the glass melting furnace 1, a sampling capsule 12 thrown from the throw-in pipe 11 for sampling molten glass at the position, and a recovering means 13 for recovering the sampling capsule 12 on a downstream nozzle 3 side of the glass melting furnace 1. Molten glass at an arbitrary position in the glass melting furnace 1 is sampled, and easily recovered, and thus, the condition of generation and distribution of the metal sludge can be easily and correctly checked.
