PURPOSE: An array substrate for a liquid crystal display and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to remove metal lines from cut parts for removing gate short lines, thereby removing the generation of bad contact of lines due to the physical impact and improving the yield of the LCD panel. CONSTITUTION: An array substrate for a liquid crystal display includes a substrate, first and second gate short lines(131,133) formed at a side of the substrate in parallel to each other in one direction, a 2n+1th gate line apart from the first gate short line by a predetermined interval and connected by an additional first electrode, a 2nth gate line apart from the second gate short line by a predetermined interval and connected by an additional second electrode, data lines(115) crossing the plurality of gate lines(113) for defining pixel areas, switching elements formed crossing points between the gate lines and the data lines, and pixel electrodes(117) formed on pixel areas.
