The limiter for a motor vehicle internal combustion engine has two sensor inputs (1.1,1.2) to measure two operating parameter values (n,PQo) for the turbocharger. An analyzer (4-9) is connected to the sensors to provide a control signal (FAC1) to limit the operation as a function of the values. A third sensor (1.3) detects a third parameter (VOL0). A monitor determines the limiting values for the second and third sensors dependent on the first sensor value.
