PURPOSE: A material for a photo-alignment layer, a photo-alignment layer and a method of manufacturing the same are provided to improve the characteristics of a liquid crystal display device and to enhance alignment stability and resistance to light and heat. CONSTITUTION: A photo-alignment layer is manufactured by coating a polymerizable monomer having at least one photo-alignment moiety for carrying out a photo-alignment function by the photo dimerization reaction, and at least two polymerizable maleimide groups per molecule on a substrate, and exposing the coating layer to light to cause the photo dimerization reaction of the structural unit and the photopolymerization reaction of the polymerizable maleimide group. Thus, a crosslinked polymeric layer is formed and the polymeric layer carries out the photo-alignment function.
