PURPOSE: A material suitable for valve guides of internal combustion engines is provided, which has remarkably improved machinability and wear resistance is provided. CONSTITUTION: The present valve guide material has excellent machinability by using a sintered alloy which has a composition consisting of 1.5-4% carbon, 1-5% copper, 0.1-2% tin, 0.01 to 0.1% phosphorus, 4% or less, in total, of enstatite and manganese sulfide, and the balance iron and also has a structure in which copper-tin alloy phases, free graphite, enstatite and manganese sulfide are dispersed.
