A low carbon martensitic stainless steel which contains, in mass %, 0.030 to 0.100 % of C, 0.50 % or less of Si, 1.00 to 2.50 % of Mn, more than 10.00 % and up to 15.00 % of Cr, 1.00 % or less of Ni, 0.50 % or less of Cu, and one or more selected from among 0.01 to 0.50 % of Ti, 0.01 to 0.50 % of V, 0.01 to 1.00 % of Nb and 0.01 to 1.00 % of Zr, and further contains N in the range of from 0.005 % to a value of percentage satisfying (Ti + V) x 14/50 + 14/90, wherein the balance is Fe and inevitable impurities. The low carbon martensitic stainless steel can be used in a state wherein it has been hardened and is not subjected to further treatment, is less susceptible to softening by tempering due to an elevated temperature during the use of a disk brake made therefrom and thus can maintain the hardness thereof at a predetermined level, and exhibits excellent workability in blanking before hardening.
|
